Xuezhi Liu: Paperclay

Xuezhi Liu is a Chinese ceramic artist who, after graduating from Central Saint Martins-University of Arts in London, returned to China and settled in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, where she studied and collaborated with Chinese master ceramicists. Jingdezhen is a city with a long tradition of ceramic production, still considered today the “porcelain capital.” There, Liu reconnected with ancient Chinese techniques of pottery. These traditions strongly permeate Liu’s art, but she does not simply imitate earlier works; she creates new forms, resulting from her different sources of inspiration and the will of the firing process.
